About Our Archive

Preserving our community's heritage and making it accessible for current and future generations.

Our Story

Welcome to the South Australian Croatian Community History Room Archive, a digital collection that preserves and shares the heritage of Croatians in South Australia. This archive connects past and present by ensuring that the photographs, documents, records, and personal stories that shaped community life remain accessible for future generations.

Our collection reflects more than seven decades of community history, from the founding of the Croatian Club Adelaide in 1950 to the many organisations, events, and individuals that followed. Alongside official records and publications, the archive includes photographs, oral histories, and biographies that together tell the story of migration, achievement, and everyday life within our community.

Our Mission

Preserve

We safeguard the records of the Croatian community in South Australia through systematic cataloguing and digital preservation, honouring the pioneers and contributors whose efforts shaped our shared history.

Share

In presenting selected elements of the archive online, we make South Australia’s Croatian heritage available to community members, families, and researchers. Some materials are restricted or may be inspected by appointment only, in line with donor agreements and preservation needs.

Connect

The archive encourages contributions of photographs, documents, and personal stories, linking them with biographies and other records to form a growing collection that reflects more than seventy years of community life. Access is managed through agreements that respect both community expectations and archival standards.

Educate

Through context, interpretation, and access to primary sources, the archive helps visitors understand the significance of migration, settlement, and cultural achievement in shaping South Australia’s Croatian story, while maintaining appropriate conditions for consultation and use.
